WesTech Engineering Inc. has an immediate need for a Field Process Engineer in our Ames, Iowa office.  This position is responsible for ensuring the successful and effective completion of water treatment process demonstrations/pilot studies to give WesTech a preferred position to win capital projects. Primary duties include developing pilot protocols, executing pilots, and technical report writing, as well as supporting our production groups and field service team with process concerns.

Applicants should be rapid learners who use logic to solve problems, perform with minimal supervision, and have a passion for water treatment.  Additionally this position requires one to effectively communicate with coworkers and customers at all levels in a professional and courteous manner.

 Additional duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Apply water treatment process knowledge and troubleshooting skills to technical and process issues to optimize results.
  • Support product research and development activities.
  • Gather data and monitor results to ensure a process modifications yield the desired results.
  • Calculate and record chemical dosage rates, mass balances, hydraulic loadings rates, etc.
  • Suggest modifications and improvements to pilot equipment to better meet customer needs and keep pilot units up to date.
  • Perform equipment maintenance when required and maintain equipment logs.
  • Be knowledgeable of and comply with all safety and environmental regulations associated with the company's pilot fleet.
  • Support full scale equipment process start-ups and optimizations as necessary.
  • Travel approximately 50% of time.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-Year College degree in related field or 2-year degree with 2 years of related experience.
  • Field process experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of water and waste water treatment chemistry.
  • Licensing or certification in water or waste water treatment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to interpret test data and present in report format.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Experience with good laboratory techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations and standards.
  • Familiar with process equipment such as pH, ORP, Temperature meters, etc.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a "hands on" approach.
  • Understanding of basic hydraulics
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications including PFD & P&ID's.
  • Basic understanding of proper handling of water treatment chemicals including coagulants, acids, basis, and oxidizers.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
